Fetal Monitors

Unlike ultrasonic instruments, some non invasive fetal monitors do not expose either the pregnant mother or her fetus to radiant energy. Recently, second generation fetal monitors have incorporated microprocessors and mathematic procedures to improve the FHR signal. A fetal monitor can show that a baby is in extreme distress, so the doctor can take the appropriate action to save it. Many fetal related medical deficiencies were overcome in 1968 with the development of electronic fetal monitoring. Fetal monitors are used to detect and trace the fetal heart rate and uterine contractions.
