Power of Attorney
Power of attorney is a method that allows you to appoint a person or organization to handle your affairs while you're unavailable or unable to do so. The person who signs a power of attorney is called the principal. The power of attorney gives legal authority to the agent or attorney-in-fact to make property, financial and other legal decisions for the principal. There are three types of power of attorney: Nondurable, Durable, and Springing. A power of attorney can be general, so that the agent can conduct any sort of business on behalf of the principal, or it may be specific, limited to the transactions expressly provided for in the document. Powers of attorney are commonly used in all sorts of business activities, and are very frequently executed on behalf of individuals. Often a power of attorney lawyer is recommended to make sure the proper type of power of attorney is granted. However, there are a variety of do-it-yourself power of attorney forms available.
