Abrasion Resistant Coatings

Some common needs include fingernail polishes, flooring, plastic glazing, headlamp covers and other automotive parts, transportation windows and optical lenses, where clear scratch-resistant coatings are used. AR coatings add some abrasion resistance, but, in general, because of their extreme thinness (about 250nm), they are only as abrasion resistant as the material underneath them. Aluminum oxide coatings are abrasion resistant, which means they are near to impossible to buff and recoat to freshen up the coating. The need for scratch, mar and/or abrasion resistance is well established in various markets. A number of companies manufacture or supply Abrasion resistant coatings.
