Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is a serious disease marked by high levels of sugar in the blood. It occurs when the body does not respond correctly to insulin, a hormone released by the pancreas. The result is that the cells of the body become starved from not receiving enough glucose from the bloodstream. Short term, this causes tiredness and fatigue. Longer term, this can lead to significant organ impairment. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. Type 2 diabetes usually occurs gradually. Most people with the disease are overweight at the time of diagnosis. However, Type 2 diabetes can also develop in those who are thin, especially the elderly.
