Brachial Plexus
Brachial plexopathy is decreased movement or sensation in the arm and shoulder, caused by impaired function of the brachial plexus (a bundle of nerves that control sensation and movement of the arm). The brachial plexus extends inferiorly and laterally from the last four cervicaland first thoracic vertebra, before passing superior to the first rib, behind the clavicle and then under the axilla. When a child is born with a brachial plexus injury or is diagnosed with Erbs Palsy, it may be as a result of improper management of the infant during delivery. Brachial plexus injuries (also known as Erb's Palsy & Klumpke's) occur much more frequently than people realize.
