Terminal Servers

In recent years, terminal servers can refer to a network access server or a server operating system that provides a graphical user interface of a Windows or a Linux desktop to user terminals that don't have this capability themselves. The first terminal servers were devices providing a connection between a so-called green screen terminal and a host computer via an Ethernet connection. With some terminal servers, a given terminal user can have multiple host connections to different kinds of host operating systems (UNIX, IBM, DEC). A terminal server is a device to connect multiple, possibly remote, input/output devices to a central processing unit.
