Bar Code Readers

A barcode reader, also called a price scanner or point of sale (POS) scanner, is a hand held or stationary input device used to capture and read information. Many specialty firms offer receipt printers, bar code scanners, cash drawers, pole displays, magnetic stripe readers and supplies for point of sale. Some new types of bar code readers currently available are camera based readers that use a small video camera to capture an image of a bar code. A bar code reader includes the bar code scanner and the decoder which transforms the electrical signal from the scanner into ASCII.
